Ready for the AI era, a step ahead
Problem
After the match of the century between Lee Sedol and AlphaGo, I believed SNU had to prepare before the AI era arrived in earnest, and so he created the AI Committee.
Process
I brought in Yang-hee Choi, former Minister of Science, ICT and Future Planning and professor emeritus of computer science and engineering, as chair, drew in some fifty faculty members and outside experts, and organized three subcommittees covering AI education, AI research, and the Gwanak AI Valley. Operational support for the committee later moved from the planning office to the research office.
In 2019 none of us knew ChatGPT would arrive so quickly, but looking back, creating the AI Committee when we did turned out to be well timed.
Result
Over President Se-jung Oh's term, the AI Committee drew up master plans for each of its subcommittees: education, research, and the Gwanak AI Valley.
